Hi! I noticed that amazon.com is selling a single layer sacd version while mobile fidelity states that its release is a hybrid version. Can someone please clarify? Also, I'll appreciate feedback about the sound quality for those that have already bought the hybrid version. Thanks.

There is no single layer version. Amazon adds "Requires SACD-compatible hardware" to all their listings to scare away buyers.

Indeed. Amazon is not the only good place to actually purchase discs, but they are an excellent one, particularly since they're set up to connect those seeking rare/OOP titles with those wishing to sell used copies of same. But at the same time, their site is a thoroughly unreliable source of info about those recordings. If you're lucky, a reviewer will have commented on the detail you're curious about, or they'll give you a full-size image of the back cover of the title you're interested in, so you can see for yourself what the manufacturer has to say about it. Otherwise, you're better off researching the title elsewhere (like this site,) even if you end up back at Amazon to purchase it.

I do own this particular disk and it sounds excellent. Be assured it is a hybrid SACD but is Stereo, only.
And I do agree that Amazon, even with all their misinformation, is THE go to place for SACDs and Blu-rays. People that don't have sacd players might be turned off by the supplied info, but then it's better for the "informed" buyer who has access to this site and can cross-reference their purchases.

Many thanks to all who responded to my query. Indeed this site is very helpful and informative too. More power to you all!

I have this title in DVD Audio, and is awesome, im sure the SACD can´t beat DVD Audio version, cause SACD is only stereo, and the plus of the DVD Audio version is the surround mix, is one of my top discs in multichannel.

My copy (which really sounds good) skips on track 3 on the instrumental part, but only sometimes and only on the sacd layer. Has anyone else had this error too?

Couldn't agree more The DVD-A surround mix is so good that I see no point in buying the stereo only SACD version. It begs the question why is the SACD stereo only. There must be many frustrated rock and pop lovers like myself who are fedup with the paucity of sacd releases and when they do come out they are in stereo despite like this example having a multichannel mix already in existence.

I couldn't agree more. I saw a post on another forum about a completed engineering SACD for Carly Simon: No Secrets. It would make a nice alternative to the expensive DVDA version.

Or how about at least releasing something NEW from the vaults. I keep hearing about a number of projects that were done except for deciding what color the disk label would be.

There were a lot of "readied" DVD-A (Van Morrison: Moondance, Frank Sinatra with Antonio Carlos Jobim, Madonna, etc) projects which were never released and languishing in the vaults. All were discrete multi-channel and I'm surprised Rhino never followed through. I was one of the lucky ones to have a copy of No Secrets [DVD-A] and it sounds wonderful and it was probably under $15 at the time of release. And to make matters worse, all Frank Sinatra Reprise Recordings are currently being re~mastered by Concord Music Group who abandoned SACD. The 70's Jazz album "Chase" was recently re-released by Collector's Choice Music and was mastered from the existing Quadriphonic elements as a RBCD. So many, many missed opportunities.
