I want to call everyone's attention to this extremely fine disc. The playing is superb. The sound is more than serviceable. No one who loves the violin should be without it. The Bernstein and Bloch are a special treat which are really good to have. I would have purchased the disc for those alone. The wonderful performance of the Barber is a bonus for me!

Bruce,

I couldn't agree more that this is a wonderful disc, though I think the m/c sound is very good, which is a lot better than "more than servicable" in my lexicon.

I couldn't agree more. Not only are the performances top-notch, but the sound is up to BIS's usual standards - as good,on average, as any in the business, including PentaTone and Channel.

This is a very fine set of performances indeed from Gluzman with a simply outstanding account of Barber's haunting concerto in which the sound of the oboe solo that opens the second movement is beyond reproach both artistically and sonically. A contender for first choice from a most unlikely source.

Great atmospheric job from BIS despite the usual limitations evident on top class stereo gear. A must buy really and a gift at the price.

Nice one Robert!

Um! Not really but still a very good listen. Nice wide sound-stage but some haziness of detail in dense passages.

Seconded. Much to enjoy here and both orchestra and recording sound great.

You'll think no doubt that I am following some subversive agenda or dancing to the tune of a Nordic piper but not so.

Over the weekend I found time to spin this disc several times - just couldn't put it down. IMHO

1. This is masterful playing by Gluzman on all three pieces, richly imaginative and deeply interpretive. This is fiddle playing of a rare and enduring quality.

2. By far, these are the best interpretations of these pieces available today on disc, Serenade is way beyond (cf) Philip Quint whilst (cf) Joshua Bell's & Gil Shaham's Barber's are left in the shadows.

3. Sonically this is the best sounding BIS recording to have been released in their 44/24 PCM era.

If your THING is "hairs on the neck and tears in the eyes" you'd be crazy not to buy this disc. If it's not you'd still be crazy not to buy this disc.

The disc leaps into my current Top Five fav SACD's on performance alone. I am going to buy Gluzman's Tchaikovsky 1 now.

I did exactly this after hearing the B/B/B SACD. It, too, is excellent.

Ya got me! Just ordered mine! The one listener review on Amazon was positive, but the the writer doesn't appear to think much of the works involved.
