Not enough capacity?????? After the release of the Genesis Catalogue in this format there is not enough manufacturing capacity???? This sounds like BS.

I thought a lot of new SACD pressing plants had been set up a while ago. Am I correct in saying that many of them have now closed down?

What madness.

More interwebz nonsense. It is happening. Gus Skinas told me so.

I trust someone who worked on the project than an internet rumor. Sometimes things take time to develop.

Just to clarify, Gus runs the Super Audio Center in Boulder, CO. He was at RMAF this year and we met while he was hanging out with Chad Kassem. He was there to demo the upcoming Nat King Cole SACDs (mastered by the superb Steve Hoffman) which he played from the digital masters on his ATC speakers. Heavenly sound, even in a crappy auditorium. Steve Hoffman, Chad, and Gus have a winner there. I am buying everyone of em.

I hope Gus doesn't mind me mentioning his name but I wanted to put this other rumor in context. He said that James Guthrie was already finished with the SACD. Had pics of his studio with him.

Now watch the SACD not happen for other reasons and make me look bad. LOL.

Well now you know as much as I do. I do believe there were some auditions of the DSD transfer as well.

P.S. Hello to my friends on the Steve Hoffman board. Hope you all are doing well.

Wow. So the SA Center is still in business. That's a good sign.

Hi Lee, we miss you at SH Forums, where have you been? (If you don't mind me asking).

Just listened to Roger Waters "in the flesh" SACD and I must say that Roger's rendition of Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond sound very good in 5.1. The SACD format really complements Pink Floyd material IMHO. Can just imagine what the real McCoy will sound like. I'm stoked! Especially after listening to these live versions.

If you read the review on Amazon [US] for Zenph's Rachmaninoff by an engineer who worked on the project, the album was recorded for multi-channel but was released only in a DSD mastered RBCD because SONY had CLOSED its US SACD pressing plant.....

I must say, I find it hard to believe that Sony Disc Manufacturing (DADC) in the US would remove the capacity to manufacture hybrids (SACDs) at their Terre Haute plant... Incredible..

Recessions bordering on depressions plus Sony's huge Blu-Ray payola (which paid off, but for how long) weakened the Japanese giant and I suppose SACD wasn't that important to them. I do feel that SACD will endure like Vinyl and resurge in the near future with some unexpected treasures laying dormant in record company vaults (How about a company much like Pentatone issuing all those QUAD masters from the 70's in rock, pop and jazz formats) Seems like an awful lot of blu-ray universal players are popping up and there MUST be a reason!

Lee, is there any way to contact you via email or the like?

I don't know. I have a bad feeling about this -- I don't think this has anything to do with Gus Skinas, or Chad Kassem, or neccessarily even Roger Waters.

I think this has to do with record company executives; inaccessible people who we may never get an answer from. There may never be closure on this.

Someone somewhere raised this point in the past. It may have been sometime ago probably in the Pentatone thread. The question was is if I remember correctly was would Pentatone be reissuing any other labels old historic output after the Philips reissues,Trusting to my fallible memory I got the impression Decca maybe EMI very unlikely any other labels/genre very unlikely ever to happen, Too much revolving around issues of rights, finances and legal matters. I would assume that it would be the same for any new company trying to get into the same market. If anyone did try to do this the big question is would they sell in sufficent quantities to make them viable sadly the answer is probably not in the days of cheap CD's and downloads. I still want the EMI/Harvest Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) Quad tracks recorded in the 70's and slated for a vinyl disc release the time , to see the light of day on SACD but after 40years that ain't gonna happen either !!!
