It has been confirmed on May 1, 2009 on Surroundablog that the Steve Wilson King Crimson 5.1 remasters will be in the DVD-Audio format. As previously mentioned, Red and Lizard will be released in June with Court of the Crimson King to be released in October. It is expected that 10 5.1 DVD-As, in all, will be released in this series.

And this has what to do with SACD exactly?

Well, nothing, except for the fact that this is a follow-up to the initial announcement that the King Crimson catalog was being remastered by Steve Wilson in 5.1 in an unspecified format...... so there!

I guess this should now be called the DVD-Audio and SA-CD.net forum then, huh?

As many of our readers have universal players, news of ANYTHING in surround is always welcomed, especially with the paucity of pop titles trickling down the pikes.

99 % of the people who have a DVD player nor know what King Crimson is, they will think this is a game or a new movie.

Be careful what you ask for? Don't forget Universal players also play CDs and DVDs, I don't relish the idea of tons of posts about Dolby and DTS Surround Sound music CDs and DVDs.

Also the King Crimson stuff SHOULD be on SACD not Digital Audio, as In The Court of the Crimson King was announced as a new SACD release in 2001 and was even in one of Sony's SACD catalogs and kept getting delayed. So eight years later they finally get around to releasing it and it is on DVD-Audio instead of the PROMISED SACD, something is dreadfully wrong. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN SACD!!!!!

No kidding.

I mean, they still release new DVD-A's?? Seriously? I'd be less suprised if it was a Dolby Digital only mix. I wonder if they're going to run it through the Verance watermark? Wonder if they'll come in the long Super Jewel Boxes?

Who made -that- decision?

Perplexing... I'll probably still get them, but I wish I were a fly on the wall when that decision was made.

Next thing we know we'll hear PF:WYWH is coming out on DVD-A instead of SACD, too.

(Nevermind. No we won't.)

Totally agree, And before anyone starts complaining about the fact that this is a DVD-audio release and should not be on an SACD thread . I would ask them to look at the comments on the Black Sabbath Paranoid thread. The fact is that we are being short changed in that many pop releases are coming out in DVD-A not SACD , if this forum is not the right place to complain about this then what is. I said in one of my earlier posts on a different thread that while the choice for classical and jazz is pretty wide, those in the pop/rock area are starved for choice and we should not have to accept second rate. At the current stage of proceedings it seems to me that I am seeing a polorisation Classical and Jazz on SACD and others on DVD-A. This cannot be a good thing for SACD .It is the format war between them that caused all the problems. What everyone needs is a standard format not chopping and changing that simply causes confusion. A strong SACD prescence in all genres is needed to strenghten it so everyone should oppose releases which are released in the other format , one of the aims of this site is to make our voices known. AS an SACD lover this release gives me more ammunition that our cause is being deliberatly run down. Without notification of this I would not be aware and therefore not able to complain. So I think it is valid to talk and complain about missed opportunities like this
