V.S.O.P. The Quintet: Live Under The Sky        (5 of 6 found this review helpful)
  November 24, 2007

Of the 8 Hancock/VSOP Japanese SACD's this one is probably the biggest surprise in both content and sound. After the release of the beautiful Columbia Remaster 2 CD set in 2004 you would think that we had everything that was recorded by the VSOP Quintet on those 2 July 1979 nights at the Denon ... more
Herbie Hancock: Head Hunters        (3 of 3 found this review helpful)
  November 24, 2007

I had a good price for the whole set of 8 Hancock Japanese SACD's so I got this one even though I already had the regular Columbia SACD. This SACD seems to be just a new Japanese release of the Columbia CS 65123 already posted on this website but hybrid instead of Single layer. This album is ... more
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers: Caravan        (3 of 3 found this review helpful)
  March 23, 2007

Solid performance of the Jazz Messengers. Most tracks are uptempo bop and the playing is very skillful. Hubbard on trumpet is nineteen and exuberant. Shorter on tenor sax is now a veteran in the band honing his skills at writing which will bloom a couple of years later with Miles Davis 2nd great ... more
Kazumi Watanabe: Mo' Bop II        (1 of 1 found this review helpful)
  March 17, 2007

Kazumi Watanabe is a Japanese Fusion Jazz guitarist in the same vein as John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Larry Coryell. He has played with a plethora of guest musicians and this new trio is the latest incarnation of such collaboration featuring virtuoso players Richard Bona on bass & Horacio ... more
Kazumi Watanabe, New Electric Trio - Mo' Bop        (1 of 1 found this review helpful)
  March 16, 2007

Kazumi Watanabe is a Japanese Fusion Jazz guitarist in the same vein as John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Larry Coryell. His style includes also some jazz explorations in the vein of Pat Metheny. His technique is pretty much flawless (precise, fluid, inventive - if you heard it on guitar Kazumi can ... more

SONY DVP-CX777ES 400 DISC CHANGER - QUESTIONS!
January 27, 2009
I have had 2 CX777 for over 4 years and never had any problems with them. I cannot even recall one SACD not playing or skipping and I have more than 600. I reorganized them on a regular basis and never noticed any of them being scratched. I also currently have a Marantz DV7600 UP which is in the same price range. The Marantz is definitely more ... more

Hey Dan, I have all of the Fagen and new Steely Dan in DVD-A (Nightfly, Kamakiriad, Morph the Cat, Two against nature and Everything must go) and they are all exceptional. The recordings are all top notch and the 5.1 Surround mix just plain demonstration level (varied and tasteful). A good comprison is Gaucho which I also have on SACD. Many of ... more
Faulty SACD - Joe Satriani - Please Help!
November 27, 2007
My pressing seems perfectly fine. I'm only familiar with the SACD but I have a total of 11 tracks as advertized. Track 4 is there and tracks 6 and 10 are different songs. I've tried it on both my Sony and Marantz players with the same result. I've never had any SACD out of 600+ have problems on my Sony ES players but I have about a dozen that ... more
