Received my SA-11S1 today. What an extraordinary sounding machine!

Yes, after 20 years I finally found my last CD player. I'm seriously considering buying another and putting it in storage just in case this one should fail.

Anyone knows how to turn off display while not listening as I tend to leave my player on all times?

Have had more time now to listen to CD playback on the SA-11S1, and what's really striking me is how clearly it reveals the differences in CD mastering. Recent remasters with a lot brick wall filtering are almost unlistenable, while some older generation CD's and most of the MoFi's and DCC's I have sound amazing. Still not the air, space and detail of a good SACD, but the Marantz sure makes many of my CD's now palatable.

And did I mention this is the most amazing source device I've ever heard? Those who already have one know exactly what I mean. Take out a second mortgage if you have to.

It sounds like there's quite an SA-11S1 fan club here? It truly says a lot for a player when there is this much enthusiasm.

Strangely, it's copped a beating in other forums. For example I've read comments such as very bright treble and very weak bass. Neither of these traits is even slightly apparent in my system, and if anything the converse is more correct. Actually, if I could change anything, I wouldn't. To me it's dead on accurate. I don't regard myself as brand biased either. Prior to this product I was not a big Marantz fan but the SA-11 has definitely won me over.

FTR I listen to RB-CD mainly with noise shaping = on and filter = 3. SACD, filter = 1.

BTW, There are SACD player bargains to be had. I was at a Sony store here in Sydney the other day and saw a gentleman negotiate a $4200 ES player down to $1500 cash. He walked out very happy.

If I decided to join the club what would be the price tag? What is a reasonable $$$ for this player from a reputable mail order outfit?

I agree with you entirely. Whoever said it was overbright at the top end and weak in the bass must have had some malfunction with their systems, or something incorrectly set. I've listened through both loudspeakers and headphones (both electrostatics -- the latter directly connected to the player's outputs) and still marvel at the purity of the sound from top to bottom. It's gorgeous.

Oh dear. Please stop writing how good this player is; I'm suffering from envy, greed, poverty and avarice, and am in danger of coveting my neighbour's ass (UK version only).

Seriously, though, I'm going to have to hear this one!
