I think single inventory (hybrid SACD only, no CD version) is the way to go for niche markets (classical and jazz).
I don't understand why the label Heads Up (owned by Telarc) releases the new (and sadly last) Michael Brecker album on CD first, and then a month later on hybrid SACD (at a similar price). Inevitably the SACD will be a market failure, since many fans will get the CD as soon as it comes out, although they may have some interest in SACD.

I bought this disc (Brecker) but it was actually on the Verve album and very good it is too. I agree, companies simply shoot themselves in the foot!!

Actually I really doubt if Sony cares. The Michael Brecker example is a good one, but the recent reissues of the ELO catalog is even more telling. The whole catalog has been remastered and reissued by Sony Legacy (I believe) and no SACD. I would have loved to get the ELO titles up through "Out of The Blue" in 5.1 surround. (especially if they were done as well as the Elton John titles)
I'm not sure which titles, but I thought ELO II and maybe one of the other early albums had a QUAD mix, so it's not like a lot of work had to be done to create a MC mix for an SACD release.
Anyway, if Sony really wanted to ramp up SACD again, I would have thought that the ELO reissues would have been a great way to do it.

It's the same with the Alan Parsons Project (on Sony BMG's "Arista" label). Some of their albums were recently remastered and reissed by Sony Legacy and though they would make fantastic material for SACD (especially in multichannel) the "expanded edition" was simply an RBCD with some bonus tracks.

Pour tenter d'enrayer la chute des ventes du CD, non compensée par celle du téléchargement, Sony ne voit qu'une solution : relancer le SACD, format de disque audio haute résolution initié par ses soins sans grand succès il y a quelques années, qui a l'avantage de n'avoir jamais été piraté.
En même temps, comme jamais un seul titre n'est sortit en exclusivité sur ce support, il est compréhensible qu'aucun pirate potentiel ne s'y soit intéressé plus que ça...

Top Music International released a single-layer SACD "Break-In" disc (pressed by Sony in Japan). Because it was marketed as a part of the "Pure SACD Series", there was no CD version.

As much as I would love to see a restart of SACD, the only thing that will really stop the fall of CD sales is the signing of good artists.

Yes, that's like releasing a paperback edition of a book before the hardback.
An advantage of hybrids that hasn't been mentioned is that they are retailer-friendly. You can sell them alongside CDs without worrying about whether the customer can play it.
