Castor,
Looking forward to this once it comes to my locale with a decent price, but a question: how many symphonies total are there?

Hi FD, This is the full Weingartner symphonic output. Whether we will get past number 5 remains to be seen.I certainly hope so.
Symphonies Symphony No. 1 in G, op. 23 Symphony No. 2 in E-flat, op. 29 Symphony No. 3 in E, op. 49 with organ Symphony No. 4 in F, op. 61 Symphony No. 5 in C minor, op. 71 Symphony No. 6 in B minor, op. 74, 'in Gedenken des 19. November 1828' (also Tragica. Second movement orchestrates, is based on sketches apparently meant for the dance/scherzo or minuet-movement of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, the B minor D759.) Symphony No. 7, Choral op. 87 (1935–7) (in manuscript?)
If you get Volume 4, I would be interested to know if the fault on the MC layer is as I reported in my review.
I got mine from jpc 15.99€ because, as I was ordering a number of discs their fixed 6.99€ postage charge did not make the price unreasonable. Regards, Castor

Got this recording some days ago and about the "ominous loud cracks" from the right front-channel in the multi-channel recording of the "Lustige Ouvertüre", Mr. Williams: Have the same problem twice times at 6 min. 12 sec. and 6 min. 18 sec. and it's really VERY loud(!) and no fun to hear.
So it is'nt just a defect of your disc but propably of the whole production/multi-channel mix.

Thank you Dr. Grubert for confirming that the fault on this disc is not just on my copy.
I shall contact cpo to see whether they can help with this problem and hope that you will do the same.
Best wishes

ranke@jpc.de replied very quickly with the news that the fault has already been corrected and will send replacements out.

Peter,
You have piqued my curiosity about FW previously; I've enjoyed the sound snippets on-line. Which disc/symphony is the must-have one?

If you like this sort of thing (and I do), you can't really go wrong; I'm always drawn towards orchestral works with organ so this volume would seem a good place to start! The only piece I thought a bit too rough and ready is "King Lear", but I'm ready to stand corrected; perhaps I was expecting too much from the piece a few months ago.
Actually I've also been listening to his arrangement for orchestra of the Hammerklavier recently - interesting......particularly with portamenti....

Hey...
If I did not order my copy from JPC (I bought locally here in the US) what will CPO do about my copy and any others so affected???
I had not listened to the tone poem (though I have heard the Symphony No. 3) and my copy too has the cracks at 6:12 and 6:18....
Hmmmm
THANKS!!
Mark W.
