Japanese have produced some of the most advanced tech, but they are so far behind in actual users of that tech.

I have the Krips Beethoven #1-8 on cd. I was a regular customer on a shop -unfortunately it closed down- and the owner gave them to me as a present, since the box set was missing the last cd with #9. I agree that there are not very exciting performances.

By the way, are we sure that these are _new_ A/D conversions and not repackaging of an older digital version? Maybe 24/96 -> analog -> DSD as in "Esoteric"?

So what makes these recordings so much better than brand new recordings made with the best possible digital recorders that paying double the money for them is worth it?

Nothing at all, that I can remember from when I had them as my first complete set in my teens on Lp and later bought Karajan's imho much better 1963 set instead.
Musically Karajan's 63 account of the 9th still rules for me. But SQ wise the only really good analogue recording I have is Solti's CSO Decca on a Mobile Fidelity double LP set.
If I could have had DECCA's SQ and Karajan's interpretation and soloists I would have been quite happy.
I have only got two digital recordings of the 9th and neither of them is anything to boast about sq wise nor performance wise.
But Barenboim and his youth orchestra is clearly better than the Vänska/BIS which I find overrated both for sq and interpretation in stereo at least.

I heard Beethoven's 9th live about a month ago and realized that no recording I have or have had comes even close to hearing it live anyway.
But I really wish that sooner rather than later,we will get a modern non-compromise digital recording of the mighty 9th that will do it more justice than the ones I have so far heard.
And no I won't buy the Krips.
I need a state of the art recording of Beethoven's 9th.

I know. :,-( I always feel like apologizing for the exorbitant prices of Japanese releases...especially when I see them at elusive or other sites. CDJapan is usually less expensive. At least that's what people on here often say. But, the ship tax also hits me the other way around. Hope you find a good deal or sale, Gustavo.

Thanks you most kind.
Iam referring to this same CDJapan.
I buy in this shop long before it become a sponsor of this site, then it is an old fight.
I have asked many times for these narrow-minded morons from Tokio do not send invoice together with the packages, but they never do what I ask.

Result: today I have just pay 130 per cent in Customs duties for the 4 Tangerine Dream SACDs.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CDJAPAN??

Why apologize, Brett. A few years ago we were paying $60US for SHM~SACDs + s/h from Japan. Now they're $33. CDJapan is an excellent on line service. With their generous bonus points usually s/h is FREE.

Downloads are ridiculous....usually $20+....No physical disc, NO booklet, etc.

Reissue companies MoFi/AP charge $30 per disc + s/h........and I understand AP's international shipping charges are ridiculous, as well.

If you want to play....then you have to pay!

Realistically, we'd all like to see SACD prices drop but since it's a niche market and they're manufactured in limited quantities (not a mass market item), expect to pay more. The simple laws of supply and demand.

Sorry Rammie the CDJAPAN points system are silly.
The points expire just after some months.
They give and they take.

Gustavo, as others have mused on this thread, there are FAR better performances in qualitively BETTER sonics (and mch as well) than these Everest performances.....at much saner prices.

I'll probably pass on these Everest SACD reissues.

As far as the CDJapan bonus points........it's better than nothing but agree that the expiration date of such points is rather chintzy!

I have asked to custumer service restore my expired points but they denied.

Sorry to hear that, Gustavo, but it's a great marketing ploy on CDJapan's part to ensure you keep ordering from them.

Normally, they are VERY polite and considerate and perhaps some day they'll do away with the expiration of their bonus points altogether.

In the meantime, Rules are Rules!

7 new titles of Everest Classic Hybrid Stereo SACD will be released on May 31, 2015 in Japan.

These SACDs are remastered from the original 35 mm magnetic tapes, and exclusively produced under license and released in Japan by the King International Inc. They are the third batch from a total of 50 titles.

If these Beethovem symphonies are the third batch from a total of fifty titles can sometime please inform me what was released in the previous two batches?

I'm a big Everest fan.

Thanks.
