I am pleased to announce that primephonic is now an advertiser/supporter for this site. Launched just today, primephonic offers high quality classical downloads from a large number of labels, including Surround, DSD etc. See their banner at the bottom of this page and click through to explore what they have to offer!

Excellent! This is very exciting - I was not aware of Primephonic before and I'm sure I'll be making use of their services. However, I just checked out the site, and it looks as if some elements are a work in progress: not all the listed labels are represented as yet (with actual albums/files), and the choices for download seem to be WAV, Stereo FLAC, Multichannel FLAC, Stereo DSD, and Multichannel DSD - there's no detailed information (at least that I could find) as to what the actual resolution of the various files is. I hope they're able to fix this soon.

BTW, does this mean that can we talk about downloads on this site too now? ;-)

The site is brand new and likely to change/be fleshed out in time. I'm sure primephonic would welcome any suggestions. They can be contacted at info@primephonic.com (along with social media sites).

The focus of this site is still Super Audio CD and Blu-ray Audio. I'm not beyond carrying sympathetic advertising. I don't rule out SA-CD.net playing a wider role with downloads (listings, reviews etc) but the vendors would have to want this to happen ... something I haven't seen any evidence of yet. As for the mechanics of downloads there are sites specifically devoted to this.

Ok um wow, what a horrible site.

Not only are the prices on the high side -- higher than the physical disc in some cases -- they are charging a good deal more for stereo FLAC over WAV which is /exactly the same quality/ and a /smaller/ DL on top of that.
I can't believe anyone would support such disgusting deception.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing ...

Site needs more new music (Berg, Reich, Adams, etc.) and less of the 19th century "romanticism", which seems to be it's focus.

Like nativedsd is actually a specialty DSD recorded content co-op of labels site of Channel Classics, this is Pentatone's entry into the wider, distributor sourced content plus their recordings, supermarket download business. More like the eClassical model of BIS.

With the virtual collapse of optical media sales, this is what one does to remain in business, and to continue to make new recordings. My obviously biased advice is to support all of them, especially if you like the idea of seeing new recordings come to market. This is currently turning into a business of re-issues.

When I first saw this last night, I assumed Pentatone. Most of the music is currently Pentatone and the web site has the same graphic feel to it.

I have been supporting Pentatone, and any label offering their music for download.

This new site is odd because the price of a MCH Pentatone download appears to be 2 euro less than the list price of the ISO from their website, which has both the STEREO layer and the MCH? If you join the Pentatone club, which is what I have done, you get 20% off that list. So, it is actually less money to essentially download the SACD from Pentatone then TO buy either the STEREO or MCH layer on this new site.

Chris should like this though because he won't have to get both layers or extract the files. Perhaps, it is priced to reflect this convenience.

The other interesting thing to note is that it appears you will be able to get the music in whatever file format you want, regardless of how it was recorded. You can get Pentatone in FLAC and RCO in DSD (I know some RCO are apparently DSD recordings...but many are not according to SACD-net and several of those are available on primephonic as DSD.)

Wow. The new Pentatone Manfred Symphony would cost $32 USD for DSD stereo at the current exchange rate. I can buy the disc for $12.49 from an Amazon 3rd party seller. Primephonic needs a reality check.

They seem to offer dsf files which to me is good news compared to their mother site Pentatone?
On the other less positive side, they claim to offer native files without upsampling or other false marketing tricks. But NOW sell all the Wagner operas plus Korngold's symphony as DSD files!
Recordings which are,to the best of my knowledge, from pcm 24/96 and even 24/48 masters!!!
In spite of their lack of transparency I might try some native DSD files from my hotel wifi connection here in KK tonight.

I have been holding back because of their iso files before.

Besides I stocked up on quite a few really good DSD downloads from native.dsd.com already before leaving Sweden this winter.
