I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this release, but find myself momentarily deterred by criticism of it on the Hoffman board, with some weighing in with preferences for RBCD versions. What I see as a certain period charm to the recording, many view as flaws they seem to expect hi-res will eliminate….
Anyone care to settle me down?

I haven't seen the comments from the SH forum on this one. But I will say that Dusty in Memphis, while a classic album, isn't a great sounding album to start with. So any remaster, or release of it - be it on CD or SACD - is going to be a sonic standout.
That being said, I find the SACD to be an enjoyable addition to my collection. It's not the SACD I reach for to demonstrate how good SACD as a format can sound. But it's nice to know that this edition is about as far as they can go in terms of tweaking the sound of Dusty in Memphis.

Couldn't agree more. It's the best it will ever sound save for some miracle.

Perhaps the wags at SH forum didn't like the SQ because it was masterfully remastered by Kevin Gray.
IMHO, it's never sounded better. Have had it on Vinyl and RBCD and AP has hit a home run with Dusty in Memphis.

Can not see the point of putting this type of music on SACD or any rock or Pop rubbish either, However I understand that profits from this type of music can help to subsidise quality or better music, e.g. Classical, Film music etc.

Whenever I put on a new optical disc of whatever format or genre, I sit back and listen, and decide (often subconsciously) whether I like the music or not. Sometimes, on first listening, I'm undecided - so I'll play it again at a later date.
If listening to the disc gives me pleasure, I'll keep the album. If I don't like it, I'll get rid of it.
Perhaps I'm missing something?

That is perhaps one of the most rubbish statements I have ever heard, even from you.
I listen to ALL genres of music and to limit myself to one genre would IMHO be rubbish...and perhaps insidiously BORING, as well!

As expected, for your info I do not listen to crap genres and that includes rock & pop etc. continous drum beats, long haired tattooed drug taking yobs guitar strumming prancing up and down,of no interest.

He's said it all along and he repeats it about every week or so regardless of how stupid it is.
