... personally I am less convinced by young Järvi than his father Neeme,as a conductor though. Young Järvi's Bruckner 7 for example, also on RCA is nowhere near how I feel that masterwork should be played. And his Stravinsky/Nielsen on Telarc is boring imho.

Jarvi's Bruckner is tepid and his Stravinsky duller than ditchwater BUT the Schumann set is excellent (and DSD to boot).

As a non-Rattle fan, the launch of the BPO's in-house label makes me eager for the naming of his successor. I wish we'd gotten something a little more venturesome, something like Georg Friedrich Haas's In Vain, or Turangalila, both of which Rattle/BPO have performed recently.

Is the Berlin Phil. the only symphony orchestra currently using bluray for their house label?

Absolutely re the naming. Does anyone know when we might find out who it will be?

Having just received this I see from the booklet that the audio recording was made in 24/192. The DTS multichannel version on the disc is 24/96 but the video portion has dts hd at 24/48. The (free) audio downloads include 24/192 5.0 flac. The retail price of the downloads is 29.90 euro - which is cheaper than the very lavish boxed set. Initial reaction to the disc (dts 5.0) is if a warm, detailed sound which is very easy on the ear. Too soon to comment on the interpretation as I would have to listen to all the symphonies.

My copy arrived in the post today, and I am delighted with the detail and transparency of the sound and the very natural multichannel mix. I have also downloaded the 192/24 5.0 version (more for the novelty than anything else) but I have to admit that I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the FLAC download and the DTS version on the blu-ray on my modest system. The sound quality on the videos is, however, noticeably inferior to the pure-audio. As for the performances, I was concerned at the review on BBC radio 3 CD review a couple of weeks ago, which suggested that some of the rubato might be a bit over-laboured, but on early listening I have not found this to be the case, and I believe that these performances will merit repeated listening.

I was going to buy them too,and almost placed my order. But a search at their site indicated that the download files which would be basicically the only thing I am really interested in from this lavish set,are mastered for and available via iTunes, which I suspect means compressed for the iPhone crowd.
The 29.90 price you mention is that from the iTunes link on their homesite?
I balked at the high price 49.90 € at JPC and will wait and listen to my recent DSD downloads until such time that these become available in their full masterfiles versions without having to buy the rbcds and blurays I can't play anyway.

Hopefully it won't be too long before they become available on their own.

Hi Chris, the 29.90 euros would seem to buy you 24/192 flac 5.0 downloads from their own site. This set was recorded in PCM (4/192) not in DSD sadly.(Remember that the download comes free if you buy the disc set, as does the 2 RBCDs.) I personally prefer disc versions where possible and that is why I am pleased that Zeus has extended this site to cover blu ray audio. BPO obviously think that folks like me would still like collectible items and have gone to town with the packaging.

Absolutely no difference soundwise between DSD and 24/192 PCM in my opinion.
