One point in favour of operas on DVD-Audio is that you can have the libretto on the TV-screen.
Yes, the Solti Ring must be released on SACD or DVD-Audio. Imagine hearing the late lamented Birgit Nilsson in that format.

As a sacd newbie - and classical/opera fan - i am not only disappointed to see so few sacd titles but i am absolutely shocked to see no sacd releases of late verdi's and only 1 late puccini opera. Or Wagners, or Strauss'.
Someone any idea why that is ? Sorry if this is a too stupid question for this forum and for bothering you with my frustration.

It's a frustrated persons' forum at present.

You've taken the words out of my mouth; the Ring, and Salome and Elektra, please!

When you say LOL, is that in frustration or pure amusement?

Thanks for all the responses. Clarifies a lot.
I mailed pentatone re. Tosca and they confirmed today that they will issue in August this year.

I'm surprised that someone like Decca hasn't issued something like their Solti Ring on SACD.

That's right and the same can be said for all other recordings re-mastered to 24/96 or DSD. All those re-issues should be released on SA-CD in stead of first remastering to high res and then down-converting everything again to release it on RBCD!!!!!
In this particular case i'd prefer the Karajan Ring however, i'm just listening to the "Originals" re-issue. The orchestral playing is astonishing, especially in its transperancy. The precise declamation of the singers and the "acting with the voice" are in a class of their own also. This is the first time i have experienced Ring operas as thrilling all the way through, without being lenghty at any point.

Guess i should keep to my choice of 12+ different versions of mozart's requiem on sacd.
Thanks
Paul

Having just read all the posts on this thread, I am surprised no one has mentioned the SACD Elektra on Profil.
Strauss: Elektra - Bychkov

I think we are all awaiting delivery before making recommendations.
