I already have the Chandos SACD release with Corigliano's 2nd symphony coupled with the Suite from the Red Violin. Is that the same work as on this new one?
Or are they two separate works with similar titles and themes?

The short version is, he wrote a Chaconne for violin and orchestra at the same time he wrote the film score. That became the first movement of the concerto which also uses themes from the score in the other movements. It has nothing to do specifically with any suite from the score.

In short, if you like any of the music from the movie "The Red Violin" or the Chaconne, then this is a must-have! Fantastic sound and performances--it easily surpasses the Naxos and Sony RBCD versions of the Concerto. And as a "bonus," there's an excellent concerto (and an orchestral piece) by virtuoso violinist Jaakko Kuusisto--I wasn't aware that he was also a composer. His language is quite tonal--just a tiny bit more adventurous than Sibelius'. In fact, I can readily hear echos of Sibelius and Corigliano in his Violin Concerto. Highly recommended.

Kuusisto's Concerto is very interesting! I like it very much! Any comments?

I like it, too. It's nice to hear contemporary music that is actually listenable! While I prefer Corigliano's Concerto, Kuusisto's is certainly worth hearing/owning.
