This must be one of the worst sounding SACDs I have had the misfortune of purchasing: the sound is completely 'digital' - harsh and grainy. Awful.
And if the sonics are dubious, I am not sure why anyone would want to specially purchase this as a SACD. What can be its raison d'être? It doesn't seem to have one.
The performance is reasonably good, though nothing particularly special: an average baroque band with average ensemble work, but with tempi and phrasing sometimes verging on the stodgy. The various concerti making up the 12 Concerti Grossi are all performed in much the same way - leading to unnecessary monotony. Many better recordings exist on redbook.
