This is one of the first SACD albums I bought - and it's awesome! "Where You Been So Long?" features a killer horn section (track 6) and "Hanging On The Cross" (track 10) are worth the price of admission alone. I would classify this album as progressive jazz which sometimes gets a little 'out there'. The intruments truly sound like they are three dimensional and their clearly defined positions relative to one another in the soundstage both left to right and front to back is palpable. I enjoyed the content on about half the tracks on this SACD. The soundstage sounds a bit compressed to me and the lead vocals too closely miked. But there are some tracks on this SACD that are convincing both musically and sonically. |
