This is excellent. It is the violin sonata that one buys this disc for; about 30 minutes of pure joy. The music is a mix of classical and early romantic and it is full of life. The notes leap from the piano as though enjoying their unexpected opportunity to be heard. A marvellous performance.

This first release on SACD from the Tallis Scholars on Gimell is disappointing, the performance seems to be good but the recording is the problem. These performances are good and the recording very clear, but this latter does, to my ears, have a slight harshness in the upper frequencies, which I do not expect to hear on SACD.
