Performance:   Sonics:
The new opus signed Jordi Savall can be considered the development of his preceding recording, “The Spirit of the Balkans” (see OpusHD N°108). In three SACDs and two programs entitled Honey and Blood, and The Cycles of Life, the latter based on an original idea by the regretted Montserat Figueras, whose sublime voice we here hear with great emotion, it is to a vast musical epic that we are invited, at the heart of which memory plays an essential role, as Jordi Savall himself states: “Music is the most spiritual of all the Arts. It is in fact the Art of memory par excellence. It only exists when a singer or instrumentalist makes it live. It is then, when our senses are touched by the emotion or beauty of a song or by the surprising vitality of a dance, that, thanks to memory, we fix it in our spirits. These are moments that are both intense and fleeting, which bring peace and joy to our heart, or sadness and nostalgia, and which we cherish preciously in the deepest parts of our memory.” Uniting, as always, singers and musicians from diverse horizons, this book-disc, richly illustrated, is a source of reflection in which each of us will find the true face of freedom, the only one we possess… tolerance.
