I took a chance with this album and was very pleased I did. Mrs. Pidgeon was new to me but the Chesky label was not. The Music: A little soulful....bluesy with a strong taste of folk music. She tells stories and sings in a rather laid back way but expressively. I enjoyed the whole album and her rendition of spanish harlem and the final cut really making the grade. The sound: iN A WORD...AWESOME. The realism of the music and the quality of her voice is extremely impressive. She is literally there in the room with you. Her voice is captured beautifully. If you like to be adventerous and try new music I highly recommend this sacd to you. The music and recording are fabulous.

If you are looking for a female voice on SACD - buy this one. "Spanish Harlem" will give you the heebie-jeebies (if you got good hifi equipment). The sound is phenomenal.

Delighted to add my recommendation to those of the previous reviewers, this is a very enjoyable record indeed. A compilation from her three albums, it's real mix of styles, from outright pop, to jazzy, to traditional folk - the lady is nothing if not versatile. I too enjoyed "Spanish Harlem" but I wouldn't have rated it the best on the album, "Underground" is more rhythmically exciting but my outright favourite is "Fhear a Bhata" which although there are no song notes with the album, I understand is a traditional Scottish song from the Isle of Lewis with the verses in English but the lilting chorus left in Gaelic. Haunting melody, crystalline vocals. Stereo tracks only reviewed, sound quality excellent, voice well presented, quite forward on the sparsely instrumented traditional tracks, all instruments clearly defined. Well worth having.
