Performance:   Sonics:
Just in response to the review by my learned colleague, Whitehall:

First, I don't think the sonics are "certainly top notch" -- they may be a notch above average, but certainly inferior to other SACDs from the same source.

Second, and more importantly, I don't think that issuing a disc with "show-off sonics and snoozer music" does per-se "show the dark side of audiophilia". I'm sure that the performers and producers of the disc considered the music and performance to merit some interest and pleasure in some listeners, and did their best to have the music recorded in the best sonics they could. I think the "dark side of audiophilia" is when one thinks this is "snoozer music" with "show-off sonics", and keeps the disc only due to the latter… :-)

This is indeed rather "elevator music" in less-than-great sound, but if you like elevators… :-)

As the rating system supports only "performance" (which is OK), but not "music" (which is less than OK for me), I'm including both under "performance".

Performance:   Sonics:
While the sonics are certainly top notch, only a few of the cuts hold my attention. Most of the arrangements are overdone and not at all enjoyable to listen to although the first cut, "String of Pearls" is quite good with great energy.

The vocalists are typically fine artists in their own right and can usually carry the song unless overwhelmed by the orchestra. Without strong vocalists, it just irritates.

This disc shows the dark side of audiophilia - show-off sonics and snoozer music.
