Marvin Gaye: What's Going On      (0 of 7 found this review helpful)
  December 24, 2011

I don't know any Japanese, but when I put http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UIGY-9030 in Google Translate (http://translate.google.com), I got the following translation: used body material with excellent flow SHM / transparent, single-layer characteristics of the original live DSD (2ch) ... more
Holst: The Planets, Britten: Four Sea Interludes - Bernstein      (5 of 7 found this review helpful)
  February 28, 2010

The Britten is good, but THE PLANETS!!! -- SUPERB!!! -- both as a performance and as a recording. I have a few recordings, including the rightly famous Dutoit, as well as Karjan/Decca, Mehta and Rattle on RBCD, and, on SACD, Susskind on Mobile Fidelity and Gardiner on DG. I've also heard many ... more
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong: Autumn in New York        (6 of 7 found this review helpful)

Second, and more importantly, I don't think that issuing a disc with ... more
Dohnanyi: Variations on a Nursery Song etc. - Dohnanyi, Starker        (4 of 4 found this review helpful)
  April 9, 2009

I agree with canonical's review. Unlike Praga's modern issues, the sound here is pretty dated, in mediocre-to-poor transfers. The Variations on a Nursery Song (22'59") and the Konzertstuck for Cello (22'20") were recorded in 1956 and are in stereo. The recording date of the Piano Concerto No. 2 ... more

Discussion: Stravinsky: Firebird, Le Chant du Rossignol - Levi
February 27, 2010
Well, only now in 2010 I happened to notice this 2006 review mentioning my name... :) Yes, I'm the same Amir Kessner who wrote to Mr. Roger Nichols and who wrote that the replay volume of this SACD is extremely low. The same Amir Kessner also likes the name "Grannyphone" and finds it quite appropriate :) Amir ... more
