From the soaring guitar riffs of Nightlife and the intensity of Juke Box Hero to the impassioned plea of Waiting for A Girl Like You, this album, presented in full sacd glory, will never fail to excite not only the classic rock fans but even casual listeners as well. Ah, don't forget the danceable beat of Luanne and the urgency of Urgent.
Of my four Warner Japan releases, this IMO is the most balanced so far. The vocals are smoothened a bit but not really laid back a lot, as Lou Gramm's passionate vocals can still be felt and of course, heard. The guitar riffs with all accompanying effects are smooth and yet clear and extensed and so do the percussions with all its essential details. The bass is solid and focused without being overblown (watch out for the solid bass after the 2nd chorus on Break It Up, really dead centered). The two bonus tracks Juke Box Hero and Waiting For A Girl Like You, "nearly unplugged" (that's the album description of them), recorded belatedly at Mick Jones' home studio in 1999 are interesting as well (take note of the electric guitar slides at the back of acoustic guitar sounds).
I can't really find any major faults on both stereo and multichannel layers, as they are both excellent. This is the absolutely first time I owned this album in any format so I wasn't able to compare it. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed it and enthusiastically recommends this to all.
