It amazes me that Bill Evans...just a few short years from his death was playing better and more beautifully as he got older. This Shm-Sacd is a perfect example. In my opinion it ranks as what may be his best playing ever.

I consider this Warner disc to be a Dvd-Audio but I still give it 5 stars because both the music and the sound is awesome. It is so impressive how ones emotions change from the different note-structures Evans plays. Evans note selection is much more complex here.
A person can go through the gamut of his/her emotions pretty quickly listening to this album. Evans piano playing on this album is so musical and liquid...how he can bunch notes together so suddenly and then play other tonal colours....then slowing down the tempo....is truly amazing here.

This disc must be played very loudly and the sound is wonderful. Sonically this disc cant compete with the other tape to Dsd discs but it still impresses never the less.

The original album had 7 tracks but this Shm-Sacd has 10. The 3 bonus tracks are different in feel and dont completely relate to the first 7 on the same emotiional level but it does make for great listening and a longer playing time.

Evans......hopelessly hooked on heroine and according to one friend.... committing the longest suicide in history manages to achieve masterful piano artistry of the highest calbre. A TRUE ARTIST.

A truly great album and Shm-sacd.

Anyone interested in the artistry of Bill Evans would do well to purchase this incomparable SHM~SACD. With Eddie Gomez on Bass and Eliot Zigmund on drums, Evans plays two originals, B Minor Waltz (for Elaine) and We Will Meet Again (for Harry) and Jimmy Rowles The Peacocks, Michel Legrand You Must Believe in Spring," the unlikely Theme From Mash and Warner has generously added three bonus cuts.

The trio sizzles in a recording engineered by Al Schmitt and mastered by Doug Sax and produced by Helen Keane and Tony LiPuma.

I only wish that Bill Evans classic "Quintessence" with the transcendent A Child Is Born would also be released in the SHM~SACD format.

Again, I welcome Warner Japan to the SACD format and am hoping that they continue to release other jazz classics and while we're at it, how about some Van Morrison?
