RE: Bill Evans: You Must Believe in Spring:

Rammie,

Why would anyone "do well to purchase this SHM-SACD" and what's in the "SHM" or "SACD" treatment to make this release "incomparable"?

Of course the performances are good - this is one of the finer hours of BE's later trio - but you say nothing about the sonics. The previous incarnations of this set come in very good sonics (the sessions were quite well recorded to begin with), so what makes this "SHM-SACD" worth purchasing? How does it compare to those fine alternatives that are widely available and can be had for pocket change?

This is the important question, given the exorbitant outlay required to obtain the set (these start at $65...!).

I thought the previous releases I've heard in this Warner series were outright dismal (including a stereo release like OC's "Shape of Jazz": see /showthread/62816/67777/y#67777, post 13), and the impression I get, given that you have nothing to say about the sound, is that you may be just basically trying to find something to justify your investment. Or are one of those believers who think that the green color and the "SHM"/"SACD" tag on the cover automatically guarantee good sound.

Or what?
