This Unabashed Romantic Classical Lover has always liked 'Ma Vlast', but it's never been one of my Faves...until now. I guess I've never heard a recording/performance that 'grabbed' me...until now. The multichannel recording is warm, spacious, natural, and full-range and as good as any*, with the orchestra sounding a bit wider than in normal excellent MC recordings.
But it's the excellent conducting and playing that move this one to my Faves list. The German-born and -trained Claus Peter Flor brings many little differences to the music that cause me to pay attention AND smile. The orchestral plating is world-class while perhaps not in the same best-of-the-best class as the Russian National O, but the MPO is only 13 years old!
If you enjoy this music, BUY THIS. . . * My single favorite multichannel Classical recording is Channel Classic's of Fischer and the Budapest playing Rachmaninov's 2nd symphony, #CCS SA 21604. Fischer asked Channel Classics to create a sound similar to what he hears on the podium, and balance engineer Sacks and producer Dekker achieved that with a single 5-channel microfone placed ahead and above the conductor. It's the most-natural and real-sounding Classical recording I've ever heard in my 50 years of loving this music.
