This is absolutely the worst recording of Mahler's Fourth Symphony ever! Maestro Gergiev doesn't understand this work's childish feeling, and the results are according to it. He uses fast tempi. They don't work, especially in the beautiful slow movement.
I have Ivan Fischer's interpretation with Budapest Festival Orchestra (Channel) and it is thousand times better than this! Third movement's total time is here only 18 minutes! Jonathan Stoke's engineering is also awful: timpani's sound is too loud. Mahler wished that slow movement is peaceful and slow, like a lullaby.
Claycomb's voice is beautiful, but Miah Persson is better singer. So, if you want good SACD, don't choose this! Here is my own recommendation:
• Miah Persson (soprano), Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ivan Fischer (Channel Classics)
