Performance:   Sonics:
The music on this SACD is orchestral transcriptions of music originally written for piano or two pianos. It's not actually a bad disc, but I can't help thinking that there is something missing with both performance and recording. The playing is generally very good, but when one compares, for example, the Petite Suite with the Ernest Ansermet recording of 1957 (on records), it lacks something in urgency and passion. The recorded sound is smooth and detailed, but perhaps a little too recessed for my tastes. All in all a little too laid back.
