Performance:   Sonics:
G. Mahya voc & p, K. Kawano kb, M. Sutoh b, S. Bandoh dr, Y. Onuma g, T. Koshida g, T. Miyazaki saxes, S. Sendoh perc, M. Lo perc,
Miss Mahya plays a few of traditional jazz standards in very exciting interpretations and arrangements, some pop or folk songs that have become modern jazz standards meanwhile like Danny Boy, My Way or You are so Beautiful, a wonderful version of Stevie Wonder`s Ribbon in the Sky and, one of my favourites of the record, the old rock track made famous by Eric Burdon ages ago, Sixteen Tons.
Miss Mahya seems to be a very young singer when looking at the cover photo, but when listening to her singing, phrasing and surprising interpretations of so well known material she seems to be very experienced and grown up. I hope she will make a lot of such thrilling jazz records in the future because she is definitely one of the most talented of the lot of young jazz singers on the scene today. Especially when they are recorded as good as this one. The sound is very good, rich of colour, good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments to breath, very dynamic, brilliant.
