Performance:   Sonics:
Straight ahead jazz. Easy to listen to. And boy oh boy it's beautiful. Scott Hamilton, following in or continuing rather the tradition of Ben Webster and Lester Young, is known to many for his big and velvety sound and his perfect sense of melody and swing. If you have a tube amp you're lucky because it's all about the midrange on this disc. It's one of the best sounding SA-CD's I have. The performance is super professional without sounding soulless. It's not of a Kind Of Blue ilk, nor does it stretch your imagination beyond the boundaries of traditonal swing, but that was never its intention either. If you are looking for edgy improvisation and counterpoint or even Coltrane's sheets of sound, do not look here. Eddie Higgins (p) and Scott Hamilton (ts) are a pairing very well suited to each other. It's a mainstream winner.

There are 11 tracks on this 67m SA-CD and they are all standards, from Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, to Love Letters and When You Wish Upon A Star.
