With apologies to anyone who finds this SACD interesting: the reason Mozart is reknowned and Eybler isn't, is because of this music. I could not find anything of interest here, and I like a lot of classical music by many different, some even lesser-known, composers. Hmmm, I wonder what other guys were doing while Mozart was spinning out masterpieces? Oh yeah, they were trying to earn a living by writing stuff that any monied yet average amatuer could play satisfactorily. Okay, not fair to compare almost any of his contemporaries to Mozart himself. But even with lowered standards and expectations, this music does not rise above the merely pedestrian. It is simply too plain. Or perhaps I'm overlooking the hidden subtilties and charms. Either way, buy at your own risk, or only to satisfy your curiosity. The performance is certainly sprited and competent, and the recording is very nice. The music itself is likely to induce little more than a shrug of the shoulders and a filing of this disc in the seldom-played section of your collection.
