Performance:   Sonics:
R. Brown b, I. Masuda vib, C. Candoli tp, J. Clayton as & ss & ft, P. Christlieb ts, C. Walton p & Fender-p, B. Higgins ds, J. Guerin ds, FOA 1990.
Ray Brown is written on the cover and Ray Brown you get. Bluesy straight ahead jazz at its best. The bigger line-up of the West Coast All-Star Giants makes the Ray Brown music more thrilling because of it`s increased possibilities of soloing, compared to his usual trio line-up. I`m not sure if the other items concerning the composers are correct, but the track called “Freddie” definitely is “Freddie Freeloader” and was not written by Ray Brown, by sure. But that is not that important. What is important, is that this is a disc of exciting music, great soloing wonderful interplay, fun and feeling. You will enjoy it from the beginning till the end.
The sound is good, with good soundstage, dynamic and brilliant, but the bass and drums are a bit compressed.
