I just purchased this SACD from a seller on ebay for $14. Didn't realize there were 2 different versions of this title until after I had received it. No worries, as this one sounds very good. The liner notes for this disc look like they were probably the same for the normal Fantasy CD. There is no information provided as to who created the 5.1 mix or who mastered the SACD Stereo and MCH layers. Shame because whoever did it, did a very nice job.
I have the Complete Live at the Village Vanguard CD set, so I am familiar with the material. I did not do any comparison of the tracks from the Complete Live set and this SACD. At this point, I was most interested in the MCH layer as I rarely listen to the stereo presentation of my SACDs. I don't know how this was recorded or how the mix was created, but it is very well done. I felt like I was transported to the Village Vanguard as they have captured all of the ambiance of the room.
I have also ripped the redbook layer to mp3 and have been listening to it on my Zune. I have to say that the redbook presentation is also very very good. I now have to go back and listen to the SACD stereo layer.

| This is the SACD version to have, since there are Bonus tracks included. Tracks 7 thru 10. The song Porgy (I Loves You, Porgy) is a great tune that is unique to this SACD. The other 3 tracks are other takes. This live recording has a very true live feel to it. You can hear the crowd, glasses, just enough in the background to give it that live quality. Piano is off to the right, and Piano and Bass to the left. The cymbals have just enough presence without being harsh. Bass is deep and punchy, but not overdone. The piano has a medium level without too much in the highs. Overall I would give the recording a 8.5 out of 10 for a live recording. Very relaxing, pleasant sound. I only listen in stereo so i cannot comment on multichannel sound.
