Although I partly agree with the other review and I believe 'Motown Two' is the better sounding album I would like to give some more points for the sonics. Yes it's not as smooth as could be and indeed is over produced. But it's still a great sacd mix.

Love the guy and the music, but does anyone agree with me that the drum machine sounds awful - it sounds like one of those cheap drum processors that comes standard with those synth's you can buy at your local mass market home electronics store - here's an idea: hire a drummer ! :-)

Michael Donald - of Doobie Brothers fame - does some inspired singing on this album full of classic Motown tunes (seen the MCI ads? Clever joint marketing). MD sometimes changes the tune just enough to give it his own signature but without loosing the classic Motown melody we all know and love. Clever arrangements. And as I said he has put a lot of heart into his delivery.

The production is a little too 'clever' in my view. Apart from the drum machine, the high notes on this recording are not the best I have heard - voice is much better though at times there is a sibilance issue that is slightly edgy.

Musically McDonald has a unique style if not a little strained at times. But frankly this SACD is compressed and loud. It lacks dynamics, body, and presence and sounds no better than a very averagely recorded RBCD.
