I'm unsure as to whether previous contributors here have reviewed the Stereo layer or the M/C mix of this particular SACD edition?

Seeing as all bar one here don't specify, it is my own feeling that I must disagree with the general indifference that this disc has been greeted with on here, I love it!

For despite some curious anomalies, particularly the lack of a dedicated .1 LFE channel in the bitstream of this disc, this is a very nicely mixed disc indeed.

At times, it's almost as if the music itself is so beautiful and captivating, these peculiarities in the mix dissipate! I know that's not very "audiophiliac" of me (or whatever you call it!?) but then music can have that effect of carrying you along in it's intensity, can it not!? Maybe I can't be that objective as I am an unabashed Marvin Gaye fan and everytime I play tracks like "Come Get To This" and "You Sure Love To Ball" I am elated in a way very few passages of music, of all genres, can make me!? Add to that, if there's ever been more aching poignancy committed to a Multi-channel SACD than "If I Should Die Tonight" or indeed, "Just To Keep You Satisfied", I'd love to hear it!!

For the most part, despite the lack of LFE, there's lots of lovely rich bass pouring forth from the main L&R speakers which more than make up for the apparent absence of a dedicated .1 channel - although I do have my receiver's bass management setup so that there's still a faint rumble from my subwoofer going on in the very background with this disc. Strings sweep majestically and are plucked away in the rears, there's saxes and all sorts of gorgeous stuff going on but it never gets chaotic or "too much" like the O'Jays' SACD M/C mix.

Add to that Marvin's heavenly tones, sounding as 'honey-like' and seductively smooth as ever here, and for my money you have a disc I wholeheartedly recommend you give an audition, at any rate in M/C. It's amongst my favourites on the SACD format, as much for the impeccable music and musicianship but I really love shutting out everything else around me and really "listening" to this one, intently, which I do.. rather often.. at full volume.. to the possible annoyance of my neighbours!

Hi,
Unfortuneately the quality of sound in this release is not nearly as good as "Minight Love" and Neither are as crisp as the recent DVD-A "Marvin Gaye Collection" release.

"Lets Get It On" seems a lazy effort. It's almost like the tape was on one end and an sacd machine was at the other and you press a button "similar to COPY DISC" and out comes an sacd.

Very laid back music, good for background music, but the album gets boring after several listenings. There's only half an hour or so material on the album, plenty of room for bonus tracks which weren't included at all.

Sonics are ok, they are quite crisp and separation between instruments is well implemented. Generally sonics seem a bit thin thou. MC mix is decent, but not very inspiring.
