Performance:   Sonics:
Like the Beethoven symphonies that i reviewed earlier today, these Schumann symphonies where recorded in analogue sound. These recordings were made more than thirty years ago. But both especially the 3rd, which was recorded in Watford Town Hall, come out nearly as new.Unlike the DGG Beethoven SACDs which had been transferred via 24/96 PCM and lost a bit of resolution that way ,this time we´re looking at a purist transfer directly from the original master tapes to DSD.
Although a bit too closely recorded for my taste, there is less reverb and venue captured here,
the sound itself is very pure, very clean and realistic as well.
The Philarmonia orchestra under Eliahu Inbal is fine but not outstanding as the Berliners were under Karajan. The 1st is a bit phasey and muddled when compared to the very clear and clean sound of the Karajan Beethoven set heard just before this. But still recommended especially for the 3rd symphony which is very good IMO.
