Thread: Problems with SACD player

Just a quick note:

Can anyone help with this little problem.

I have a Sony DVP-NS700V sacd player. Over the last couple of weeks it has become very tempremental. Probably not the player itself but my inane thickness towards operation.

When I play sacds (with no hybrid layer) its fine, jumps to the only thing on the disc ie the sacd layer.

When I play a hibrid, 9/10 the darned thing defaults directly to the cd layer of the hybrid and not the sacd layer.

All of my Mahler Tilson Thomas cycle defaults to the cd layer (cannot get these to play the sacd layer), most of my RCA's, DG's and various other hybrids default directly to the cd layer.

I can chose the option of cd/sacd, but this seldom works.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong, it has always defaulted to the sacd layer when I put in either an sacd or sacd hybrid. What it is doing now (reading the cd layer only) is totally baffling me. The DVD plays fine, the light comes on, the cds only play fine...cd light comes on, but the sacd...defaults to the cd only....and the sacd is not recognised.

Hi Tony This is not an operator error so dont worry.
I suspect it could be one of three things assuming you havent hit it in a fit of temper at the latest results....LOL. Two are dealer servicable .ie a fault developing in or near the lazer mechanism or componont /lazer starting to show signs of age, the The other is possible cleaning of the lens (R U Still a smoker?)
I would suggest you buy or try a DVD cleaner (not CD one) and also check that you have the machine level.
Background info,It would appear that the machine is still correctly programmed as it defaults to sacd layer sometimes,this means it is reading the TOC in the very near centre of the disc sometimes.So It could even be as simple as dust or fluff on the end of the rails where the lazer mechanism travels.Dont think its Mahler to blame,even too much is not a bad thing...

It seems that Sony DVD/SACD player develop this problem.
Before having my machine serviced, I might try the DVD cleaner and not the procedure described in the links in the thread...
