Anyone on here done an a/b comparison between these players? I have an oppo bdp-93 I use for movies, but the audio for SACD'S doesn't come close to my 555. However, my 555 is having trouble reading hybrid discs (surprise)so I am debating on buying the 105 instead of repairing the 555.

Thoughts?

Why not check out the AVS
Official OPPO BDP-105 Owner's Thread
And check out what users have to say.

If it's any help, I RETIRED my Sony 5400 when I put the Oppo 93 in my system and the 105 sounds better than the 93. Of course, I'm using an expensive power cord to power the Oppo, put it on spikes and am using a damper on top of ALL my discs (BD and SACD) which elevates the picture and sound quality to new levels.

If you really want to get a headache regarding input on the OPPO BDP-105, read the AVS forum. One character called it a POS (piece of shite) and wants to send it back to Music Direct and get a refund.

It takes time to break in a new component and certain care should be allotted for proper set up. Picture wise, it blows away the 93 and with my new Marigo HD damper, it almost makes upconverted DVDs look like Blu~Ray discs.

I, personally, am very happy with the 105 and the SONY 5400 remains unused taking up shelf space.

Getting rid of quoted vendor link. Remaining post as follows:

hirefox, I did state in my mini review that in multichannel the OPPO bests the SONY 5400, especially the 105. I will probably retire the 5400 to my summer home rather than trying to sell it for much less than I paid for it, but at this juncture, I'm pretty much sold on Universal Players for their versatility and I think that should be a factor when comparing the two units.

A modded Sony 5400 would certainly best the OPPO in stereo playback but at what price?

A bit puzzled by the deletion as the link was to a Sony CD player for sale?

Rule 3: Don't post eBay links or for sale/swap/wanted to buy notices.

I bought the Australasian version of the BDP 105 last week : BDP-105 AU, which is multi regional for DVD and Zone B for Bluray.
My setup is only stereo, and the player is still running in. With this caveat, the sound quality is similar to my previous Marantz DV 9600 for SACDs. It is immediately apparent that 2L's recordings appear more detailed from the BDP-105 than through the Marantz's stereo analogue outs, without seeming cold or clinical.
The Sony release 'Volodos in Vienna' sounds marvellous, with a more detailed treble and mid-bass, without sacrificing the golden lustre to the piano timbre which was also striking through the Marantz.

If all else fails, read the posting guidelines (above). The intention here is to stop people from flooding the forum with eBay links of discs, stuff to sell. While I'm sure in this case it wasn't your item, in practice it's difficult to tell. Hence the universal rule. This is fairly standard on many forums.

Is there anybody here who has compard it to the BDP95?
According to specs it is supposed to be better than the BDP 95. But one reviewer in one of the links on this thread said he could not hear any difference between the two.
My own short experience with the BDP 95 was rather disappointing.
Definitely not a true Hi End Stereo player on SACD imho.
Rather upfront sound and lacking "air" compared to my SACD player.
On some really well recorded pure DSD recordings it was as if the acoustic sort went missing with shortened reverb tails via the BDP95.
But if it will also do DSD via USB as promised I might get one for home use if it proves to be good enough on both SACD and downloads.I will hopefully get to try out the new one in a couple of weeks.
