Any production which cast Jonas Kaufmann in anything will have my vote:

I keep coming back to "Carmen" continuously. Wish they would release BD of it and get it over with.

Point is though, Kaufmann is excellent in it as I'm sure he would be in any endeavour.

Tasty. Just ordered from JPC which, with my ADAC 3-monthly €6 discount, means it came out at only €31. Nice.

Thanks to castor for the review, which convinced me.

As Castor pointed out in his review:
"...there is a slight lack of weight at the bass end of the spectrum "

Only, I would say more than a "slight" lack.

Indeed, provided one takes that "Once Over Lightly" review literally.

Credibility is lost here on the SQ:

"They can be heard on another speedy but spectacularly played and recorded Walküre, that by Marek Janowski (soon to be cheap on Sony)."

The sound of the Janowski Ring is thin, so closely mic'd that there is no air around the instruments. Imaging is also terrible -- there's a big whole in the center of the stage.

Indeed. They completely lose all credibility from the first paragraph of review.

Obviously they have an agenda here, as methinks they protest too much.

Are you taking about Castor's review (his official site review) or the external review?

Me? I personally seem to find Gergiev's conducting often quite dull and boring. On the sonics side, I've also given up on Mariinsky as a label ... they started out brilliantly with their first few releases, and then the quality dropped off. Other have noted that they changed their recording studio ... which may well be the cause.
