Is it possible in any way to hear a DVD-Audio with the "DVD" modus of the SACD - player ? Or is it just running with the ext. 5.1. ? They have Stereo Mixes as well so i was wondering. All i know is that SACD do not play when they are connected with "optical" wires.

Normaly SA-CD players won't play the competing DVD-A format. There are several SA-CD, DVD-V players, probably that's what you're talking about ? To play DVD-A and SA-CD you need a multiformat player.
The rest of your question isn't clear to me, what kind of set-up are you talking about ?

Maybe the question was really silly, or only not clear enough. Once more: i listen to my DVD - Audio via 5.1. My receiver is so on "5.1" modus. What i wanted to know is: when i switch my receiver to "DVD" - modus, is there any way to listen to the DVD - Audio as well ? The DVD - Audio`s containing stereo mixes also, so either i can hear this stereo - mix when i change the set-up of my player or the modus of the receiver. ( theoretically )

SACD will not play through the optical connections. You have to connect your surround receiver with the 6 annalog cables. DVD audio is the same. DVD Audio will play on most DVD players and if the SACD player has a DVD option. In this case unless it is a DVD Audio player aswell, it will play through the optical connection just like normal DVD's.

DVD is 5.1 also. So what do you mean by DVD modus as oposed to 5.1 modus ? Should the DVD Modus mean a digital input for DVD-V, you will not be able to listen to DVD-A over this modus because high-res sound isn't digitaly output for copyright reasons. There is a standard now for digital transmission of high res signals but i dont kow wether your receiver is already equiped with it, it's very recent.
Basicaly you would have to select on the player, wether you want to listen to Stereo or mch. With all 6channels conected to the receiver via analog cables, the receiver will simply amplify the channels receiving an input be it 6 or 2. It doesn't seem necessary to me, to change anything on the receiver, but this cant be precisely answered without knowing your receiver.

I have the NAD T 743

When you talk about the 6 channel connection do you mean the external 5.1. channels ?
I have a digital coxial entree on my SACD player as well. What will happen if i would connect my receiver with the player this way ?

Yes, the 6 channel connection is the 5.1 ext. The digital coaxial will transfer the digital signal to be processed by the decoders in your receiver. E.G. Dolbly Digital, DTS, and other surround options as well as coverting your cd signals. You would need to assign a digital connection on your NAD for these, I believe, then set to Ext5.1 when playing your SACD's and DVD-A's (& DualDiscs with hi-res content).

I mean 6 analog cabels connecting the player with the receiver, normaly cinch.
Connecting the player using a digital coaxial cable will allow CD playback only. Probably you can use either the digital or the analog connection to listen to CD. Depending on wether the players or the receivers D/A converter is better, one of both could result in better sound on CD playback. For SA-CD playback (hi-res layer)you have no choice but the analog connection, no matter wether stereo or mch.

With the right combination of receiver and player it's possible to playback SA-CD's (as well as DVD-A) using an IEEE-1394 (aka i.LINK) connection. This provides an uncompressed audio signal purely in the digital realm and also offers the advantage of using bass management and room-correction circuitry of the receiver (not to mention avoiding the 6 cable spaghetti).

Sony's latest high-end receivers and SACD players include i.LINK interfaces. Other players include the Pioneer DV59AVi, Onkyo DV-SP1000, and Integra DPS-10.5.

Any DVD-V player will allow you to play (via the SPDIF digital port) the DTS5.1 tracks if included on the DVD-A disc and any 2ch PCM tracks including hi res PCM tracks on the disc. Your NAD receiver will receive these signals via the SPDIF port rather than the 6 analog channels that you currently use to pass SACD signals to your NAD.

You cannot send the MLP hi res 5.1 channels tracks via SPDIF for copyright reasons, even then you would require your receiver to have a MLP decoder and to my knowledge they dont exist, and your NAD definitely does not decode MLP.

Assuming you currently have your DVD/SACD player connected via the 6 analog interconnects, and your DVD/SACD player supports DolbyDigital and DTS then you will be able to play all tracks except the MLP tracks on a DVD-A. Some DVD players with integral audio decoders will not decode DTS, if so then you will be able to play the DTS tracks via the SPDIF port by using the decoder in your NAD.
