Beats me. She was born in 1945 so not old enough to have recorded in the 50's. I remember from my younger days that EMI and other labels issued mono & stereo versions of recordings in the 60's but not sure when the practice ended.
I'd hazard a guess in this case that the stereo tapes were not good enough for e-mastering so SG & friends elected to go with the mono tape? Pure speculation of course, with no supportive evidence.

Might be better to keep an open mind until confirmed from an independent source. My earlier comment may still apply.
Maybe if Simon Gibson is watching he could clarify.. please?

i received my copy of this SACD this morning and it is not mono it is in Stereo.
