Fischer's Mahler 1 on Channel.

Hopefully, "Teaser and the Firecat".........soon???????

And in multi-channel format, please!

Also, in addition to other titles mentioned in this thread, "Tea For the Tillerman" is a great release, despite it's 2-channel status.

"Time Out" in multi-channel is a winner as well.

My favorites for the last monthes : Mahler n° 1 by Fischer (Channel), Wagner by Janowski : Die Fliegende Hollander and Lohengrin (Pentatone, Bach, early organ works by Vogel (MDG), must of the reuissues by EMI Japan (The Richters, the Klemperers !) and for the fun : Debussy Calir de Lune by Tomita.

Best string orchestra recording I have ever heard

Looking forward to the already famous Mahler 1/Fischer on Channel.
I live in Argentina, my friends. It might take a year before I get hold of a copy!

(In stereo) The new BIS recordings I've been listening to nonstop (Sibelius, Brahms/Ligeti/Aho), many of the new EMI remasters (the Klemperers, the Richters, and the Oistrakhs, plus the Furtwaengler RAI Ring cycle), the new Richter WTC and Beethoven discs on Sony, the Pentatone Quartetto Italiano re-releases, the Janacek piano album by Pechocova on Praga.

Those are what I've really been enjoying very much during this year. There are others, but these have really occupied my mind (and ear) too much for me to move on to as many others as I would have wished to.

Although that's obviously "sound quality" as understood a bit more broadly than just objectively-the-best SQ (including "best-quality" or most enjoyable remasterings).

Besides the ubiquitous and highly deserving Channel Mahler 1, I've really been blown away by the performances and sound quality on several recent chamber orchestra recordings. In no particular order:
Holmboe: Chamber Symphonies - Storgårds,
Chamber Symphonies - Gateway Chamber Orchestra,
English Recorder Concertos - Michala Petri,
Grieg: Music for String Orchestra - Tognetti,
Aho: Chamber Symphonies Nos. 1-3 - Tapiola Sinfonietta, Asbury, Kantorow,
DO.GMA #2: American Songbook,
and finally the absolutely fabulous
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 - Dausgaard.

Per the requested focus on SQ:

Claire Martin, with Kenny Barron: Too Much in Love to Care (Linn)

Kodaly, Ravel, Schulhoff: Duos for violin & cello - Liza & Dmitry Ferschtman (Challenge)

Mahler: Symphony No. 5, Pittsburgh SO, Honeck (Exton)
