In Europe, the satellite channel Eins Festival (free to air in the UK), has been occasionally broadcasting the Gielen performances with the SWR Sinfonieorchester.
I have recorded symphonies 9 and 10 (Cooke completion) on DVD. Superb picture and sound. Worth looking out for - I hope that more will follow.
I also have recorded an excellent DVD of Mahler 2 by Boulez and the Berlin Staatskapelle (soloists Petra Lang and Diana Damru).

That's good to hear; perhaps with luck they'll be issued on DVD commercially.

If there was going to be a movie made about her, it would just have to be called '( nee ) Schindler's List'. Maybe Steven Spielberg is waiting for Dakota Fanning to grow up, so she can assume the title part when she does more than just scream.
Frau Merkel must really look to Alma to improve her coalition building skills.

Bought the Bernstein Unitel DVDs of symphonies 1 to 3 as a trial. The Second is the LSO version which appeared on LP in the mid-Seventies. Check out the great hairstyles: the LSO cymbal player appears to have stuck on his head the same wig that Austin Powers used on his chest. Also on this DVD, interesting trying to work out whether the lady in the front row near the centre aisle is kneeling on her chair or is a double amputee.
Despite playing the PCM stereo tracks, again there seems to be a lack of recording amplitude compared to RBCDs of the same vintage. Does anyone who has these DVDs concur; eg the last movement of the Third seems to have had major dynamic compression?

Fischer's coming out with an SACD Mahler 2nd? Oh boy, maybe time to buy an SACD player again. (I'm slowly coming out of a year of vinyl fever--a changed man--but about ready to get back into SACD.)
