Happy New Year.

Many thanks to Stephen for his dedication to this site, and the others for their constructive contributions.

Happy New Year to you, Stephen, and thanks for all of your help in steering me toward some great SACDs (and probably,to the poorhouse as well!)

I can't imagine a world without SA-CD.net.
Great job, Stephen! Thank you.

Happy New Year everyone!

I wanted to update y'all with some thoughts for the coming year.

Increasingly however things turn for the worse on this forum and I just want to disassociate myself from the whole thing. It goes without saying that if you can't act like an adult, and be respectful of others, you're not welcome here. The same goes for those with hobby horses or firm views. A forum to me has always been about the exchange of views rather than bludgeoning others with your own. SA-CD.net could survive quite well without a forum, so think about it when next you're tempted to jump on somebody's post.

That said, I do however want to thank one and all for your participation here ... and especially those who provide a financial incentive to keep the site going by clicking on the specially tagged buy links. A huge thanks also to those who make the considerable effort to contribute reviews. Remember, if you're not up to this, you can just click on the recommend (or not) buttons. We all benefit from your sharing.

Havagoodone, as we say here.

Stephen Best

Dear Stephen,

as one of the most ubiquitous participants on this Forum I have to say that I would have a hard time being without it. Whereas it is true that I was sometimes frustrated out of my skull during that big and sometimes ugly, name-calling debate over sampling frequencies, it is also fair to say that, without it, it is unlikely that we would have put so much efforts into changing for the better (?), as we have now done. I also don't understand your reference to having firm views. Surely one can have a firm view about something, as long as one is respectful in the dissemination of it?

I also derive a certain pleasure from reading the opinions/reviews about our products. I find myself agreeing with them - also the few negative ones - more often than not.

If this new year could only find you, Stephen, in the mood to start linking to certain down-loading sites that offer exactly the same quality as SACD:s, it would be a multi-win situation: you would benefit financially, the downloading sites likewise, and the environment would certainly heave a sigh of relief. I don't understand your reluctance, since it is the music and its recording quality that should be the important point, not the physical medium on which it is being presented. (Yes, I am aware that this only applies to PCM recordings.)

Havagoodone yourself! - best - Robert

Wise words Robert. By the way your "Suzuki Christmas Cantatas"has been my favorite lullaby since Christmas Eve. All the best and looking foward to both many SACDs and hi res dowloads from BIS this Year.

Bissie, when SONY invents a system whereby music can de downloaded in three layers (RB/Stereo/mch) to a shiny gold~colored disc, there will most certainly be a link directly 'hotwired' to SA~CD.net.

Would also love to see more discrete mch discs from BIS........my listening room already has enough ambiance.

Dear Rammipie,

I thought one of the ideas about downloading was to just get away from physical media, thereby also saving energy for the production of same, transportation in several instalments, and space for storing them. That is, as long as the quality for the listener remains the same. That the result is also making it less expensive (in the case of BIS, cheaper is a better word) for the consumer is a positive side effect.

Very true, Bissie.......but if you really don't like the download you can't use it as a 'coaster!' Some of my BIS 24/44.1 (?) SACDs are supporting glasses of Chateau Lafite Bordeaux wines.

{WINK.....wink!}

I don't like download at all. You have to manage all sorts of download agents for different labels, sites. You lose the capability of MULTICHANNEL and the sense of physical product compared to SACD, you also lose the flexibility of accessing music from anywhere compared to streaming/cloud. If it's a 24bit master and RBCD case, it's OK once a while. In a long run, I don't see the future of download.

(joking!)

No, Rammipie, you got me there (at least you chose a nice wine).

However, if you compare the eclassical.com guarantee (money back for whatever reason, no questions asked) to your BIS coasters and you REALLY don't like the music, then you'd find your coasters to have been exorbitantly expensive in comparison. Let me hasten to say that, since one can listen to the whole track at our downloading site, the reason for a full refund that the music wasn't to one's liking isn't used very much - indeed, in all of 2011 the guarantee was only used about 10 times...

Robert
