Happy New Year everyone!

I wanted to update y'all with some thoughts for the coming year.

It's hard to believe but 2012 is SA-CD.net's 10th year of existence. In 2011 I added 772 new titles to the database, up from 627 the previous year (in large part due to numerous Japanese remasters). There were also plenty of brand-new recordings that showcase what the format can do, in both stereo and multichannel. All in all, rich pickings for lovers of both the new and old with great sound. I didn't add everything (more on this below) but am pretty well up to date for the coming month. Anything further afield is just too changeable to bother with. Rumours or whipping up a frenzy about something that's many months away just isn't my thing.

This site is, and was always intended to be, a reference site. It's in the banner above. This means that information I'm unsure about or is incomplete will get left out. Better the sin of omission rather than providing false and misleading information, especially when used as a base for purchasing decisions. Unfortunately it's getting increasingly difficult to cull the data needed from label sites as the information either just isn't there or is inconclusive. Up to now, label sites have been SA-CD.net's prime source of data. While I do get a lot of emails from end-users it's generally not reliable or comprehensive enough to act on (though I do acknowledge the worthy intentions).

I haven't yet decided on the best way forward, but do point out that the upcoming titles added today (from 2L and BIS) were directly in response to emails (with sufficient and unambiguous information) I received from the respective labels themselves. Maybe a form could be created for label submissions, maybe discs only get added when this original information is received (the stick approach). Whatever, the situation will have to change as it's just too inefficient a use of my time, given that I run a full-time and often demanding business of my own outside of SA-CD.net. So help me out here! At least for your own benefit add the full information in a timely manner to your own site and point me at it. You might even sell more copies!

Increasingly however things turn for the worse on this forum and I just want to disassociate myself from the whole thing. It goes without saying that if you can't act like an adult, and be respectful of others, you're not welcome here. The same goes for those with hobby horses or firm views. A forum to me has always been about the exchange of views rather than bludgeoning others with your own. SA-CD.net could survive quite well without a forum, so think about it when next you're tempted to jump on somebody's post.

That said, I do however want to thank one and all for your participation here ... and especially those who provide a financial incentive to keep the site going by clicking on the specially tagged buy links. A huge thanks also to those who make the considerable effort to contribute reviews. Remember, if you're not up to this, you can just click on the recommend (or not) buttons. We all benefit from your sharing.

Havagoodone, as we say here.

10th Anniversary of SA~CD.net............And zeus, I think you can take sole credit for the increase in SACD titles as NO other website or major audio publication I know of has been so instrumental in promoting the format.

We have at least 50 new Prestige SACD jazz titles I know of forthcoming from Analogue Productions (along with 2 Cat Stevens) so that will be a major boost to the number of SACDs released and the seemingly steady flow of titles from Universal/Japan and as yet, unreleased EMI SACDs should make 2012 a banner year for SACD.

And running a full time business, myself, I give you a lot of credit for finding the time and patience to devote to SA~CD.net..........a true labor of love.

Thanks again.

Ralph

I've learned quite a bit about the format and whatnot from these forums. I've learned of some of my favorite titles released in what is now my favorite digital format and that is credited to only a few sources, SA-CD.net being one of the biggest. My music library has grown considerably thanks to this indispensable resource. So thank you very much, we all owe you quite a bit.

Thank you for all the work you do. It is a great site and almost solely responsible for all the money I have spent on SACD's. ;-))

Happy New Year Stephen, and thanks for keeping SA-CD.net the best source of information on sacd anywhere. We may be a contentious lot, but most of us are very appreciative of your efforts.

Happy New Year Zeus.
I've been here since October 2003. Site is still the best site for release information. Forum used to be valuable too, but less so now.

SA-CD.net is still the best site for knowing what's new, what great, and what's happening re: SACD. I value every opinion and position made on the forum and believe 2012 will be an even greater year than 2011 when it comes to SACD and 2011 was truly great.

Best to all contributing and to Stephen for his site.
