Total playing time:46.02

I know, - I really want the disc and will buy it anyway but the timing is pitiful. The op. 77 plays for 34 minutes, more than enough time to put the entire op. 97 (or op. 5) on the disc as well and still have change from 70 minutes. I'd love to know what Pentatone's rationale for this is. Was it seomething the BPSQ insisted on? is it due to financial considerations of some unknown kind? Without any answers it seems pretty mean.

Maybe other stuff was in the can but in the end was considered of not good enough quality for all approvals to be granted - hence 5tone decided to cut their losses and go for broke?

The price could at least reflect the skimpy playing time. Other labels do this when the playtime dips under 50 minutes.

Maybe the other movements were recorded in stereo only, and so were cut out in accordance with Pentatone's "we only do multichannel" policy?

any chance of a comment on this, Pentaman?

Not likely; this was recorded in June of this year by Everett Porter. He knows what he is doing. Why Op 97 is not there in its entirety is a mystery.

One of the bmembers of the quintet made the arrangement of part of Opus 77. Not the entire work

Does it have different instrumentation from the Op. 77?

Op.77: 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass
Op.97: 2 violins, 2 violas, cello
