For those that missed Vivaldi: Vespri per l'Assunzione di Maria Vergine - Alessandrini the first time round, it's included (as an SA-CD) in this bargain priced set. Highly recommended!

Are we absolutely sure about this? If you follow the link to the Amazon UK site they show both front and back of the box and there is no SACD logo in site - they also (though they are MUCH more prone to errors than zeus!) are not listing it as a SACD.

What an odd thing for them to do! It looks as if just the first disc of the 4 - the highlights of the Vespers - is a SACD. the rest normal CD's! But I suppose £17 for one SACD (Amazon UK's cheapest Marketplace price) is still a bargain compared to the Japanese prices, and you get some good RBCD's too!

There's another one off the wishlist. My heart jumped when I saw this listed this morning. But I already have the redbooks.

Not in my view. Dreadful singing by the soloists, who pay little head to the requirements of Baroque singing style to match the period instrument playing of the orchestra.

Maybe, but great music-making nonetheless.

Patati patata. You made the same grossly overstated claim about the soloist style in the equally excellent Buxtehude Scandinavian Cantatas on Dacapo.

The 'requirements' you refer to appear to be little other than your own preference for a very narrow and very plain interpretation of Baroque performance. I consider the Alessandrini SACD performance to be not only entirely appropriate, but superb. Basically, you just don't like singers using vibrato in Baroque.

...I don't want/need the RBCDs in the set, even for free!...

I agree free is too high of a price to pay for RBCDs. Back when I was analog-only I was thinking of starting a class action lawsuit against Sony for imposing the unlistenable CD format of the public. I still believe it was a high crime and Sony should have waited to introduce digital until they got it right! Thank God they finally did with SACD.

Gee you say some stupid things.
