So, 7T, as far as you know, So Red The Rose doesn't exist in any format except the unreleased master tapes? What a shame! I'm surprised it didn't crop up on the Duran remasters which consist of 2RBCDs and 1 DVD.

Oh, well, something to look forward to unless the masters were lost or destroyed.

So Red The Rose was released in 1985 and was recently reissued as a double CD and DVD set with all the Arcadia b-sides, remixes and videos: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=406004

And what's your opinion of the album?

Definitely worth a listen if you like Duran Duran's early albums. More moody and atmospheric than the big hit singles but none the worse for that.

Also features guest appearances from Dave Gilmour, Sting and Grace Jones.

I liked it. To me it sounded like Duran Duran. I got it orignally for Election Day and wasnt dissapointed in the rest of the album. I do like Early 80's music. However for me I prefer the original 12 inch mixes of most things back then than the album cuts. In general I feel that way even today for Duran Duran, dance music, Sparks, Madonna and others. Its like the remixes bring things to a different level. I know people who dont like Madonna. I have several cd maxi singles and when I blast them in the car I have people say they like it who is it? They dont realize its Madonna

Agreed: 12 inch mixes (especially the way they were made in the eighties with straightforward 'Extended Mixes') provide space to reveal elements in a song much better -- just like multichannel mixes can. More than any Duran Duran album I'd love to see Arcadia's reissued on 5.1 SACD.

I can say a particular insance I did not like the remix or extended mix was the original Schizo mix of Depeche Mode "Just Can't Get Enough" on the other end although I like Yaz aka Yazoo in the U.K. "State Farm" I like the Madhouse mad extended Mix alot better than the original.

Ok, I gave up to curiosity and i bought it (used, like new copy for 40dls). Yesterday arrived and gave it a listen. First impressions are:
I liked it (don't regret spending my money for it), one star for it is really atrocious, I'm not with it... 3 stars are ok IMO. Rears are really used (not ambient), the sound is not compressed neither opaque and in some songs I felt in the middle of this guys. I think that with grunge music is really hard to get audiophile attributes to the best.

So no comparation with Duran Duran's sacd wich I only can give 1 star in sonics. By the way, the more I listen the redbook layer, the more I like the songs.
