Hi everyone- Basic question from a new person on the list.....

I'm a professional classical musician, on a musician's budget but with a musician's ears. Tough life... Looking to get started on sacd. Two questions-
1- Currently have a stereo set-up that I like. Is it worth getting an sacd player just for stereo useage, at least for a while, before adding surround later?
2- Trying to find the most effective sound/price relationship I can. Curious about the Sony SCDXE597S Wonder if it will perform more impressively sonically than a similarly priced universal player. Don't need a new DVD player at this time, and it's for my studio anyway. Also open to other suggestions, please!

1: You'll be really impressed in stereo, and can wait to go MC.

2: Try and have a demonstration in your studio of the equipment on your shortlist. A local friendly dealer may very well oblige.

Anybody have a preference for Pioneer or Sony machines- particulary the less expensive ones?

Don't know about the Sony drives, but the Pioneer DV-676A slots in nicely. It sounds great and for $199 AU, it leaves a bit of scope to convince the appropriations committee that we can afford to buy the odd SACD or two.

(Another non-aural advantage is the progressive scan out using a 108Mhz/12-bit video DAC - great picture quality when not listening to audio.)
