Hello Folks,
Newbie seeking advice! I've decided I need to add the Stones' nuttiest album to my digital collection, but am not sure which version to get:-
2002 SACD/CD Hybrid from E-bay (seems to average around £25-£30) Jap mini-LP replica (c/w 3D picture!) with 'the 2006 remaster' (£35 on Amazon) SHM-CD version of the above (around £50 on Amazon) 2011 SHM-SACD version when it emerges (I'm guessing at an eye-watering price:-)
I'm tempted by the mini-LP versions simply for the replica packaging, but am a bit doubtful as to the worth of paying a premium for the 'SHM-CD' version - any thoughts? Does anyone know if the SHM-SACD version will be a mini-LP replica or a digipack or whatever? Will the SHM-SACD offer any notable improvement in sound over the older hybrid, or even the '2006 remaster' (whatever that is)?
Of course I suppose I could pick up a mono vinyl for around £60 if I looked around a bit:-)
I don't have a high-end system:-
Sony BDP-S570 player Yamaha RX-V667 amp Monitor Audio Bronze B2 speakers for the 'stereo' pair Mission 70 surround/centre speakers + the Mission sub-woofer that originally came with them.
I'm in love with multi-channel SACDs - the Nick Drake 'Treasury' compilation has been a real favourite of late along with 'Ziggy Stardust'!
Any thoughts on the Stone's album would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

2002 SACD/CD version. Cause it's the only SACD multi-channel I see on your list :)

HDTracks is saying they plan to release this as a HD FLAC download (likely 24/88 and 24/176) this spring/summer, as well.

Is it multi-channel? I thought all of the Stones SACDs were stereo only?

DPSydBerry check your local used music stores, you might find one cheaper. Remember the SACD is in a digipak.

As there doesn't appear to be a strong "you have to get *this* version" trend developing I have decided that my strategy is going to be:-
1. Blow a week's food money on the Japanese mini-LP replica with 'the 2006 remaster', revelling in the luxury packaging and hoping that the sound is ok:-)
2. Keep an eye out for a cheapish copy of the Hydbrid version in order to find out if the sound is any better!
Thank you all for your feedback.
All the best
David
PS I bought the m/c 'Sympathy for the Devil' - can't say the remixes do much for me, but the 5.1 version of the original is fabulous!

I had read about this, but it doesn't appeal; possibly it's my age (53), but I still like to receive a physical object (with real artwork!) in exchange for my music cash - I guess it's a hang-over from the LP days:-)
All the best
