What am I jealous of??? I am jealous of all over our European and Asian sa-cd.net community members who have such better access to so many more SACD titles!!!!! Boo Hooo!!!

It is is cool and at the same time, disappointing to visit sa-cd.net and see all the titles coming from labels that are not available in the US....

Please help us poor US SACD fans who languish in the musical hellish world of Brittany Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ashley Simpson, etc by contacting the many Asian and EU labels to send classical SACD titles to us!!!!! :)

Thanks, from a desperate audiophile here in the US!!!!! LOL!!!!!

Cheers,

Mark in Austin

I'm European, but I buy 90% of my SACDs in the US (CD Universe), because prices are lower even considering customs fees and shipping cost. I mainly buy jazz.

For classical there are indeed many small european labels whose SACDs are only available in the US as expensive imports. The current dollar-euro rate also does not help, but it has nothing to do with the music market as such.

I think this may be valid for classical music in general, not only the SACD format.

Hi Mark
I suggest to redress the balance Pentatone release a US-only SACD release, as they did a Peter & the Wolf with Gorbachev and Clinton a while back. How's this for a line up: Condolleezza Rice on the piano, Lang Lang the page turner, Tony Blair on electric guitar, Boris Yeltsin as drunken conductor, Lara St John with her assets, Pentatone's New Dutch Academy as the groovin' continuo, Britney Spears and Richard Branson on vocals singing 'Just like a virgin' etc. Oh yes, George Galloway as the warm up act.

In my cultural backwater, it's the prices which stink. The first Sony classical Dual discs turned up locally yesterday, with no high resolution content and priced at the equivalent of US$34 ! The Amadeus double SACD the retailer has recently reduced from US $70 to $62! Johnno told me his new Marantz SA11 cost the equivalent of US $4900 or GBP 2650, including 12.5 % sales tax, but no discount for being a good customer, when the same player is listed at USD 3000 at Music Direct, or 3500 list elsewhere.

Same here. I've hooked up with some Ebay sellers and now order them in batches. Or at least I did until I ran out of titles :(

What about us aussies downunder, virtually no SACDs are available here. Hardly any of the CD stores have even heard of SACD. I know of only one shop in Sydney that stocks SACD, having a very small range. I buy most of mine from the US online.

I don't know where you have been looking in Sydney but SACD shopping is definately getting better.
FISH RECORDS in George Sreet have a reasonable selection of classics but they don't stock many back issues. They do have bargains every now and then--I got the superb Gatti Tch 5 for $25.
MICHAELS MUSIC ROOM have a better selection of older titles and carry all the Naxos at $24 each.
JBL at Pitt St have an excellent range of both pop and classical at good prices--$23 for Naxos, $28 for Mercury.

Every 6 weeks or so I have been going into HMV in Pitt St and ask to see their selection of SACD's to be meet with blank looks. Now they have one! About 80 discs with strange prices but, hey, it's a start.

Like you I use the internet for most of my shopping, but it's fun to browse and give in to the impulse to try something new.
